Sorry, did you say… books?

Yes, books, we are going to start our own publishing house.

Ok, but aren’t books kind of … you know… dead?

This is how the majority of conversations went when I began to tell people that Sam and I were putting our money where our beliefs were (so to speak), and starting our own publishing house.

Why? Good question! Basically, we refuse to believe that books are dead. In particular we believe that it is our stories, whether oral or written, that shape us as humans. My own connection with books began in my teenage years, with the increasing need to make sense of the things and people around me, which, to my mind, basically made no sense at all.

The lessons from books that have stuck with me from high school include:

  1. Sex might not be the be all and end all. Plus Vaseline has 101 uses (Puberty Blues).
  2. Self-deception and vanity are basically the same thing  (as Malvolio so beautifully demonstrates in Twelfth Night).
  3. Women tend to get the shitty end of the deal in religion (The Scarlet Letter).
  4. To err is human (all books!).

But in fairness to all the people who have expressed amazement and some dismay at our new venture, the publishing industry is struggling. These days we have so much to occupy our time and money that sometimes it is hard to take the time to read. We get it.

The beginning of an idea…

But we also get that there are a lot of like-minded people out there who believe that books should be kept alive and our stories should be told! To these people we give a high five!  And offer an invitation. We are looking for 350 of you to join us in keeping books alive. Help us give new authors a voice and keep independent publishing sustainable in Australia.

We would like you to sign up to be part of our Core Club (see what we did there? Bad Apple…core…geddit? Whatever, there is a proper definition below…)

Core (meaning)
noun: the tough central part of various fruits, containing the seeds.
the part of something that is central to its existence or character.

That is why, as a member of our Core Club you will become an integral part of Australian independent publishing. For a cost of $11.99 per month you will receive six fantastic high-quality books a year, delivered straight to your front door. You won’t even need to think about what to read next, as before you know it your delivery will arrive. These will be books that your subscription has helped us publish. You should be proud!

As a member of the Core Club you will also receive special invitations to book launches, author talks and signed copies. You will also have access to other like-minded bookworms to chat with about events, titles, book ideas, and even have a say in our cover designs.

But best of all, your contribution will help to keep Australian publishing alive. It will enable us to continue to take risks on unknown local authors and it will mean that you get to receive quality books without even needing to leave the house, all at a great price.

The gift that keeps giving…

You can even purchase a year’s membership as a special gift for someone who loves books as much as you do. That’s a gift that keeps on giving… six times a year!

If you are interested in being one of our 350 Core members, register your interest using the link below and we will give you more details as we get closer to launching the Core Club (or should it be Core Crowd for crowd funding?). We will be capping the number of members and keeping it exclusive so if you don’t want to miss out, register your interest here>
